Mixed Media Collage

Seven Circles Mosaic design is inspired by the work of Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979). Ukrainian by birth, she was an influential figure in the avant-garde art movement in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. Tissue box cardboard was repurposed, cut into small pieces, and assembled in various patterns that are reminiscent of a stone mosaic.

Holiday Stripes, made from tissue box card, and Plastic Stripes, made from painted plastic bread bag tabs, are inspired by the work of painter Alma Thomas (1891-1978), a life-long art teacher who became a full-time professional artist in her late 60s. Part of the Washington Color Field Painters, at the age of 81 she was the first African American woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
